Pin Tray

circa 1900
1.0 x 5.3 x 11.2 cm (0,39 x 2,09 x 4,41 in.)

During the art nouveau era, there were three dominating gold and silver smith firms in Norway specializing in enamel: David Andersen and Jacob Tostrup in Kristiania (Oslo) and Marius Hammer in Bergen. Their technical virtuosity is unmatched and their best work is breathtaking. Still, even in more modest work, such as the pin tray on display here, their skills shine through. Only David Andersen exists today.
