Hans Andersen Brendekilde (1857-1942) is a well-known Danish painter who was the first artist that Herman A. Kähler hired for his ceramics workshop. He was associated with Kähler from 1885 to 1907.

The vase has been thrown by H. A. Kähler, while Brendekilde has sculpted the figure.
