Ce vase par son côté Japoniste est caractéristique du renouveau des formes provoqué par l'arrivée d'Alexandre Sandier (1843 - 1916) à la direction artistique de la Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres en 1897.

Ce vase d'essai raffiné, souligné par quatre côtes qui vont en s'amincissant, est mis en valeur par son décor au grand feu aux teintes délicatement nuancées.
